and its guidelines covering sporting activities. The Health Department has approved cross country, golf, tennis swimming, soccer and volleyball for fall play as long as enhanced safety precautions and protocols are strictly followed. The WIAA guidelines and Covid-19 protocols have been addressed individually with each head coach so they are in full understanding of the required compliance from each athlete within their program. Our athletes and coaches are not only following the guidelines set forth, but they are going above and beyond to give themselves and
their teammates the best chance to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 in the community. Their leadership and understanding of the critical role they play during these unprecedented times are to be commended.

Furthermore, due to Covid-19 restrictions and safety mitigation practices, Pius XI Catholic High School, in accordance with the City of Milwaukee Health Department, has decided to limit spectators to TWO per participating student-athlete for on-site/home venue competitions. All approved spectators will be listed on the pass list at the entrance, required to wear masks and socially distance in all areas (lobby, bleachers, etc.), unless they are from the same family. If you are not on the approved pass list, you will NOT be admitted.
Pius XI Catholic High School has purchased a Live Streaming System for our main gym area. All JV and Varsity Volleyball games at Pius XI Catholic High School will be live streamed on the
NFHS Network. You will need to go to the NFHS Network to subscribe and create an account.

There is a small subscription fee. We are looking into other Live Streaming options for sports that are off-campus and we will let our community know when this will be available. We are grateful for your adherence and support of these protocols. Pius XI Catholic High School and the Athletic Department work continuously to create as safe an environment as possible for our students and teams. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Statement to Pius XI Families regarding Athletics Moving Forward

Dear Pius XI Catholic High School Families,

As we all know, the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every aspect of our lives, both personally and professionally. With these challenges new opportunities and decisions are required to best care for our athletes, their families, our coaches and the community.

The health and safety of our student-athletes and their families, coaches, and staff is our top priority. To ensure this for every member of the Pius XI athletics community, Pius XI Catholic High School has decided to adopt the W.I.A.A.’s Revised Season Calendar for the 2020-2021 School Year.

Pius XI Catholic High School is subject to the jurisdiction of the City of Milwaukee Health Department and its guidelines covering sporting activities. The Health Department has approved for fall play cross country, golf, tennis swimming and volleyball while implementing enhanced safety precautions. The Health Department has designated Football and Boys Soccer a “high risk” sport and has not approved these sports to be played this fall. Accordingly, Pius XI will move forward with spring football and boys soccer model as allowed under W.I.A.A. guidelines. This implementation has been discussed thoroughly with Pius XI administration, the Athletics Department, and the Head Football and Soccer Coaches. It is regrettable that we must remove ourselves from the fall football and boys soccer seasons. It is felt moving the football and boys’ soccer season to the spring best serves the City’s football and soccer athletes by prioritizing the safety of both the athletes and their respective school.

Pius XI Catholic High School also understands this will allow students participating in football to have the opportunity to better prepare themselves for the spring football and soccer seasons throughout the 2020-2021 school year prior to the spring season. Our plan of action is to continue strength and conditioning programs and to add additional structure to the football and soccer programs while the fall season is underway. More detail about these activities for football and soccer players will be communicated shortly.

We understand these are troubling times. Pius XI Catholic High School and the Athletic Department works continuously to create as safe an environment as possible for our students and teams. We appreciate your continued support and understanding.

Sincerely,

Kevin Kehoss

Important Information regarding the City of Milwaukee Health Department

Hello Coaches, Athletes, and Parents

First of all, I would like to thank you all for your continuous support and extreme patience through this Covid 19 pandemic.  We have worked very hard as a collective group to try to come back to school and summer athletic workouts safely following all of the CDC, WIAA, Archdiocese, and City of Milwaukee guidelines and protocols.  I feel more than confident that we have succeeded in keeping everyone well informed and that protocols have been followed.  In saying all of that, on Friday, July 17th the City of Milwaukee has made the decision that in Phase 4 schools are not permitted to hold in person sessions including extracurricular activities, until further notice on our property. With that being said Pius XI Catholic High School Summer Athletics and Strength & Conditioning Camp will be shut down for in person workouts for the time being.

Strength & Conditioning Camp will be conducted virtually.  Here is the plan. We are going to tentatively start using Google Classroom to post Zoom links everyday.  This will allow us to keep the meetings organized and we can post recordings of the workouts directly in Classroom for anyone who is not able to make it when we do it live. Mr. Ingish will gauge how many students do not have access to Classroom yet.  If it is too many kids, then we will send the links to the Zoom out everyday to everyone's emails.  We  will gauge how much interest there is to have us send out the recording via email.  We are thinking 9:45am each day Monday through Thursday and the workouts will be 35-45 minutes long via Zoom.  More information will be sent out via email to all Strength & Conditioning participants.

There are still many unknowns and we are exploring exceptions moving forward.

I assure you that we are working hard to make sure students, athletes, coaches, staff, and teachers can come back to school safely.

Here is what the Milwaukee Health Department sent out on Friday:

MHD has received several questions about in-person school sessions for the upcoming academic year. As long as we remain in Phase 4, schools are not permitted to hold in person sessions. This pertains to any school that is located in the City of Milwaukee. Per the Phase 4 Order: “Schools: Public and private K-12 schools shall remain closed for in-person pupil instruction and extracurricular activities until further notice.

COVID-19 Return to Play Game Plan

The Pius XI Catholic High School Athletics Department will adhere to all Federal, State, City, Archdiocese, Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletics Association and Woodland Conference guidelines as it relates to returning to play. The document below has been laid out by Athletic Director, Kevin Kehoss, and criteria must be met for the athletic programs of Pius XI Catholic High School to move forward into getting “back to normal”.

WIAA Board of Control cancels 2020 Spring Competitions & Tournaments

The WIAA Board of Control has voted to cancel 2020 the regular season & tournaments. However, in efforts to provide an opportunity for spring teams to practice and compete, the Board also granted 30 days for practice and competition over the summer to include seniors.

Acclimatization rules must still be followed & contact must follow the governor's orders. With the current order in place, no interscholastic athletics may take place until after June 30.

Spring sport coaches can continue with virtual coaching until the conclusion of the respective state tournament's initially scheduled dates.

More details to come.

Letter to the Pius XI Athletics Community

We ask for your help in guiding our student athletes through a terribly difficult situation. Our "normal" season is officially over. We are going to need your help looking for signs that these students need help. We have resources to share for mental health. It is likely many of our players, coaches, and families will be feeling anxiety, hopelessness, depression, sadness, anger, and many other feelings. If it gets bad please don't hesitate to ask for help or school supports. This is bad for all students but will especially hit the athletes as they have a great connection to each other and will undoubtedly be missing the camaraderie.  We will be moving forward and continue to try and give them the best experience possible. The "normal" season may be over, but we don't plan on stopping our virtual coaching, connecting, and support until we can be back together to play again.

Pius XI Catholic High School Hires Youth Sports Coordinator - Kate Stone

Kate Stone is the youth sport coordinator here at Pius. In this role, she will develop and oversee the new Junior Popes program. A recent graduate of Loyola University Chicago, Kate holds a bachelor’s of business administration degree in sport management and marketing. She recently moved from Chicago to the Milwaukee area, but she has also lived in New Mexico, Colorado, and Oregon.

Sports have always been an important part of Kate’s life. She has played her favorite sport, volleyball, for almost her entire life, including in high school and on the Loyola club volleyball team in college. She has also coached the sport for four years, both in Chicago at a Catholic grade school and now at a volleyball club in the Milwaukee area

. Part of Kate’s love for coaching is her desire to work with children. She loves working with kids to help them grow and develop while inspiring them to make a positive difference in the world.

In her free time, Kate enjoys listening to music (preferably ‘70s or ‘80s classic rock or country), hiking, fishing, skiing, kayaking, and spending time with family and friends. Kate is so excited to be joining the Pius family and can’t wait to meet you!

Fall Community Service Project for 2019-2020

Girls Golf: Volunteered their time to help out at St. Agnes Church Festival.  They worked hard carrying boxes and other materials so that the festival was well stocked.  They also helped out with the Bean Bag toss game.   This was all to help support the St. Agnes School and Church community.

Girls Cross Country: Purchased bins for the student union and have made a concerted effort with students/staff to recycle plastic bottles and aluminum cans.

Girls Tennis:  Pius XI Tennis Team met in the chapel and learned about St. Vincent de Paul and the SVDP Meal Program in Milwaukee.
We then loaded up in carpools and headed down to the South Site, called The Crossroads Kitchen. We then proceeded to work... from 4-6:30pm— at first organizing donations of clothing and items... then decorating the hall for Halloween... then serving food and drinks for the mealtime... and finally, cleaning up thoroughly afterwards.

Boys Soccer:  the Pius XI Boys Soccer Team volunteer outing on Oct 20th.  We helped out at the Enderis Park Neighborhood Harvest Fest.  Enderis Park Neighborhood is a neighborhood centered around Enderis Park located at North 72nd Street and West Locust Street in the City of Milwaukee.  Harvest Fest is a free event capping off the final farmers market at the park.  The event is thrown as an appreciation to the residents in the area by the neighborhood association.  Many Pius XI families with current and past students live in the neighborhood, including a handful of soccer players.

The JV and Varsity teams volunteered their time by helping set up for the event, running the children’s games, staffing a number of the activity tables and tearing down at the end of the fest.

Girls Volleyball:  Saturday, November 2nd our Girls Volleyball Team went to St. Matthias and made sleeping bags and quilts for those in need.

Boys Cross Country:  Saturday, October 26th our Boys Cross Country Team volunteered their time at Feeding America packing food boxes and delivering food for those in need.

Winter Community Service Projects 2019-20
